Hardware Sustaining Engineer, II

In this position you have the responsibility for sustaining the design in the field and improving the reliability, manufacturability, quality and cost targets for the product. The Hardware Sustaining Engineer II role will work closely with the Manufacturing and procurement groups to ensure the product continues to perform as designed. The Sustaining team plays an integral role with the Contract Manufacturing selected to build the product. This team member will work closely with the Process and Manufacturing engineers to implement changes on the line that may affect the product quality and cost structure.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

- Performs engineering design for new and modified installations of electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems

- Ensures proper documentation of instrument and electrical equipment records and drawings to meet regulatory and NEC requirements

- Serves as the Electrical, Manufacturing and performance expert for the Kiosk system including designing manufacturing test tools, fixtures and processes,

- Provides day-to-day technical support on electrical, instrumentation, manufacturing and field support to Developers, Test Engineers and Team leaders.

- Supports implementation of new projects into the manufacturing environment including Performance metrics, tool specifications and other engineering documentation needed to support the install base and the manufacturing group

- Works directly with the CM representatives to ensure ECO’s are properly implemented.

- Develops system criteria, specifications, wiring diagrams and schematics

- Work with manufacturing Staff to ensure products are built as specified

- Makes sure all deviations, manufacturing Change orders and related processes are followed and closed out in a timely manner

- Ensure Field returns are properly investigated for root cause of failure mode


Qualifications & Experience:

- Demonstrated knowledge of detailed System designs, Electromechanical, automated, pneumatic and/or hydraulic based control systems highly desired

- Working knowledge of UL and CE requirements and testing

- Experience with Electronic test equipment including EMI/EMC test experience preferred

- Experience specifying, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting of temperature, flow, pressure, level, and analytical instruments and valves

- Experience with specifying, installing, and testing of Safety Instrumented Systems

- Knowledge of codes applicable to a Vending/Kiosk including, but not limited to NFPA70 and 70E

- Knowledge of motor speed controllers, encoders, VFD’s and related technologies

- Wireless or WAN connectivity experience is a big plus for this role

- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required

- 2 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience regarding design and implementation of electrical controllers, embedded designs or similar microcontroller based systems.
